Family Law Advisory Council
Mission
Founded in 2008, the Philadelphia VIP Family Law Advisory Council provides guidance and support to VIP in order to recruit and train volunteer attorneys to assist with family law cases; its members serve as ambassadors to the Family Law Bar and other attorneys interested in assisting with family law cases; and helps implement specific initiatives aimed at increasing access to justice for individuals and families involved in the Domestic Relations Division of Philadelphia Family Court.
Functions
- Recruit volunteer attorneys to handle family law pro bono cases
- Develop strategies to recruit and retain volunteer attorneys
- Act as mentors to volunteer attorneys
- Provide volunteers an opportunity to observe a hearing
- Develop reference and training materials
- Develop form pleadings
- Serve as ambassadors to the private bar
- Provide training and education on family law issues
- Coordinate pro bono efforts with efforts conducted in the community
- Lead pro se clinics
- Review policy issues regarding family law cases
