Client would like help probating her late husband’s estate in order to obtain title to her home. Client’s mother-in-law held the home in trust for client’s husband on the last recorded deed. Title vested solely in client’s husband upon the death his mother in April 2023. Client’s husband passed intestate in May 2026, leaving client and their two adult children as heirs. The children are willing to transfer their interest in the home to client. Client’s husband was receiving long-term care at home for almost ten years before he passed, following a stroke in 2016. There is no open mortgage or major repair issues needed in the home. VIP helped client prepare a Tangled Title Fund application. A volunteer is asked to help client probate her late husband’s estate, prepare the new deed transferring title to client, and prepare and file an inheritance tax return.
