Client seeks representation for a custody matter set for hearing before Judge Christopher Mallios on March 11, 2027, at 9:00am, regarding her 6-year-old child. Client is the child’s mother; the opposing party is the child’s father. In June of 2026, Client filed for custody because Father lives in North Carolina and has expressed an interest taking the child to live with him. The Client is concerned that the child would not be safe in Father’s care, due to his history of drug and alcohol abuse. Client also alleges that the child has a significant speech impediment which Father struggles to understand. Father has previously only visited the child once a year and has refused to cooperate when signatures were needed for the child’s medical care. There is no prior custody order. Client’s goal is to obtain sole legal and primary physical custody, and she is amenable to supervised visitation for Father. A volunteer is needed to represent Client during the hearing.
